Classic 2008
Dead Lake - September 7th
The classic turned out to be the worst day FOR fishing! The wind was horrible and the rain felt like ice picking on your face. I couldn't even get my boat on plane until several attempts due to the waves. Our blast-off pattern was when you get your boat in the water, just go. I didn't take any pictures prior to blast-off due to the weather; however, I was able to find a couple of images that relate an accurate feeling of what we experienced. Although the rain subsided, the wind never did.

Hurricane Dead Lake

This image gives a small example of the conditions we faced. We all waited in our vehicles for the rain to lift which never did until later. I spoke with Terry Black who questioned if we were all idiots for doing this. I responed that we are bass fishermen, to which Terry replied it's the same difference. I wasn't going to argue {grin}.
Boat Ashore!

The wind was so bad, I couldn't tell the difference if my feet were getting drenched from the rain or from the waves coming in the boat.
Gather all boats

Shown here is the weigh-in which was done at the county access off of CR.35 and all eleven boats that participated. The participation count was down a bit due to the weather.
Zero out the scale please

Tourny Director Dave Steinbach zeros out the scale as Jim Stargel and Mike Seabrook tend to gathering the next bag to be weighed.
Mr. Bass - The Overseerer

Not only does Mr. Bass John Simonson keep an eye on Don Bjerklie who is writing down the weights, but he also makes sure this photographer does his job as well. Next time Mr. Bass, be sure to smile pretty for the camera.
Your opinion please

If Mike Seabrook was asked what he thought of the weather during the blast-off, this would be his answer. Either that, or this is what he thinks of me {grin}.
Lunker winner has it all up-side-down

Shown here are the winners of the Lunker fish and check. Team John Simonson and Dave Steinbach had a lunker fish of 5.75 pounds. Nice fish gentlemen! Next time, please pose with the plaque right-side-up.
Third Place

Team Klaus Schmidt and Wes F. brought in 21.30 pounds of bass earning them third place. Congratulations Klaus and Wes on taking a check home.
Second Place

Team Bill Osborne and Shane Osborne finished in second place as they display the their winnings. The two brought 22.83 pounds to the scales. Nice going guys!
First Place

Team Ryan Jacobs and Greg Smith were able overcome the inclement weather and took first place with a weight of 23.60 pounds. These two anglers prove that they know Dead Lake better than anybody else as this is the second year in a row this duo took top honors. If there's one of you who can't make next year's event, just email me and I'll be more than happy to help out {grin}. Congratulations on your win!
